Review of Grudge Match (2013) by K W — 29 Aug 2014
Hard to get past Stallone in a movie about boxing as anyone other that Rocky Balboa. Takes a page out of the last Rocky movie by basing story on a computer game in a what-would-have-happened-if-they-had-fought scenario.
Some really bad CGI off the top with scenes lifted from the early Rocky movies and Raging Bull. DeNiro plays his character as a more annoying version of his Meet the Parents role. As for the story of two boxers (67 and 71 years old) getting into the ring and pounding each other like they do .
.. well ... you get the point. But the movie does have some rather funny scenes, most of them involving the great Adam Arkin, who shines as Stallone's Burgess Meredith-like trainer.
