Review of Growing Up Smith (2017) by Adam L — 29 Sep 2017
In an industry saturated by filth, sex, violence and coarse language, what a pleasant surprise it was to come across this new coming of age film. Equally as surprising was seeing a different side to Jason Lee, a more tender, mature and nurturing performance.
Equally as impressive were the rest of the main cast, including children. Set in the late 1970's, the set design and wardrobe department perfectly recreated the era. The narrative itself is a beautifully heart-warming and relatable story which saw a childlike smile on my face through-out most of it and left me feeling happy at its conclusion.
The director did a fantastic job at working with all elements to tell this story with such passion and emotion. Suitable for any age group, this is an innocent, loveable story that I will enjoy watching again.
