Review of Groundhog Day (1993) by Adrian Z — 05 Feb 2012
4 - What would you do if you had to live the same day over and over? It's the question that gets asked in this intelligent comedy, which sees selfish TV weatherman Bill Murray (in excellent form) grudgingly stuck in small town America on Groundhog Day.
When he awakens the next day to find it's Groundhog Day again, he begins exploring options on how to get accompanying producer Mc Dowell in bed. Of course, eventually the pursuit becomes one of winning over her heart, and becoming a better man.
Danny Rubin's script is excellent in that it keeps perfect track of all the ramifications of Murray's journey. It keeps a good balance between comedy, philosophy and romance, taking only a few wrong turns along the way.
Thankfully, it never gives into sappy sentimentality, and keeps dialogue sharp and crisp.
