Review of Groundhog Day (1993) by Joe G — 23 Feb 2012
One of my favourite films. Okay I'll say it, this is the It's A Wonderful Life of comedy films. Bill Murray is at his crotchety best with a performance that is typically cynical yet it grows into one which is genuinely uplifting.
The concept is fascinating and as a younger person it provoked a range of 'fantasies' yet the film does a superb job of exploring the possibilities. It is a remarkable work of imagination. On top of this the wit is razor sharp, it is infinitely funnier than the vast majority of comedy films currently doing the rounds.
A modern classic.
