Review of Groundhog Day (1993) by Mick V — 23 Jan 2014
Groundhog Day seems like it would be more good in theory than in practice. It is understandable how one might think that a movie about a man reliving the same day over and over could get boring. And I think that is the true brilliance of the film.
.. it doesn't. The film is so brilliantly executed. It's fascinating watching Phil go through different stages as time progresses (or doesn't...). First he goes through frustration and denial, then acceptance, then he begins to use his misfortune for his benefit, then he slips into depression and then he ultimately becomes a better person, using his curse to help others.
This a comedy that is so ingenious that it is a shame that it's not more widely known. Groundhog Day, in my opinion, should be a classic.
