Review of Grosse Pointe Blank (1997) by Russell B — 08 Feb 2009

Had seen bits and pieces of this at different points over the years, but watched it the whole way through last night. Great quirky, dark comedy. Nothing groundbreaking here...it's just good at being what it is.

Also, I feel like John Cusack can be hit and miss with the movies he's been in, but when he's "on" there's really no equivalent to his particular comedic style. Charmingly roguish, sarcastic, fast-talking, whatever.

The entire enterprise here could maybe be characterized as Tarantino-lite. Anyway, all in all this is a fun flick with strong comedic performances. Definitely worth seeing. And of course, the playful jabs it takes in recreating the high school reunion vibe is pretty hilarious.
