Review of Grosse Pointe Blank (1997) by Alex L — 23 Aug 2009
This is a great film to see John Cusack in his heyday after his unexplainable role in Con Air. Playing an unsympathetic hitman, strangely fits for Cusack who mixes his innate humor and awkwardness making the role work.
The cast is very amusing with a nice mix of different kinds of humor ranging from the main bad guy Dan Aykroyd, the eccentric Pivens and the bumbling Azaria. My only gripe is that the movie tries to focus on Cusack's romance with Driver which feels too rushed and lacking in chemistry.
The story isn't too overly complicated which is a nice change for a movie revolving around hitmen (see Lucky Number Slevin), but it's a late 90's movie so it's supposed to be fun.
