Review of Grosse Pointe Blank (1997) by Cade H — 08 Feb 2015
This film spins together multiple different genres but never really fully commits to one. That is not a bad thing however, because the movie is enjoyable and Minnie Driver and Cusack together are great.
John plays a contract killer who comes back to his hometown to attend his 10 year high school reunion. His girlfriend from high school who he left suddenly after graduation is still there and they reconnect.
The whole reconnection thing was a little weird because you never get to see the two really fall back in love, they are already because of high school. It was fun to see the main character have to explain to people what he does for a living and the stereotypes of people at the reunion.
There are some action scenes as well which are rather bland but they work and provide that change of pace in the movie that is needed at times. The movie is rather predictable but fun and how can you not like the amazing Minnie Driver.
Guys looking for a bit of romance with some comedy and action to watch with their girl, this film will work for you.
