Review of Groove (2000) by Andrew A — 05 Oct 2007
Ooints ooints ooints ooints ooints....
That's the sound of a track for a certain level of Sonic the Hedgehog 2. It's also the sound of Groove, Greg Harrison's 2000 indepedent comedy about one night at a rave. I've always wanted to go to a rave but I don't know how to dance, so I'd be really scared of looking stupid. But everyone would be on ecstasy, but I don't think they'd notice. Also, I wouldn't know where to find one, and I'd be too nervous of being busted by the po(lice). So what alternative do I take? Watching Groove of course! A fast-paced, loud, groovin, sexy movie about nothing else really than a bunch of social outcasts grooving in an abandoned warehouse for a rave. Minimal on theme and plot, you're just basically watching a bunch of people dance to a series of DJs with cool names like DJ polywog. It spends a little too much time developing two characters, one a self-reflecting rave-experienced girl and one a normal "by the books" guy who is coerced by his brother to attend. Aside from that, the other characters are good. We kinda know them, but not really; which is how I like it. Fun movie. Can't expect much better from what it is.
