Review of Grizzly Man (2005) by Samuel J — 17 Dec 2008
Another in a career of extraordinary documentaries, Werner Herzog's acclaimed documentary on this man and his bears is fascinatingly tragic. Timothy Treadwell was a jarringly disturbed human being, and it's his ironic mortality which drives the narrative with a haunting rhythm.
It's painful to watch Timothy in all his self-righteousness after his death is discussed, and the way in which Herzog is disconnected yet admires the man is truly something to be witnessed.
