Funny how most individuals who have become disillusioned with capitalism turn back to nature to make their point. Treadwell embodies that and ultimately pays the highest price. This film is handled expertly by Herzog, who brings his own fascinated narration to this film and to the character.
He refuses to go down the undignified route that most filmmakers might have chosen here - He curbs his own persona enough to allow us to ponder Treadwell's life and loves. By refusing to let us the viewer hear the death tapes and suggesting that they ought to be destroyed in this film, Herzog reveals his own great challenge and perhaps makes his own statement concerning human nature and film production.
