Review of Grizzly Man (2005) by Eli C — 29 Mar 2009
Stunning natural photography of wild bears and foxes. A restrained, sensitive and considered direction and narration from Werner Herzog. But the real draw of this character study is the unsettling and unsettled soul of Timothy Treadwell.
His friends revere his beautiful soul and tender vulnerability. The 'locals' seem to resent him and what he brought to Alaska, and his own monologues betray him as wildly contradictory. Fascinating, gripping, troubling.
