Review of Grizzly Man (2005) by Stephen E — 22 Sep 2012
Regardless of what I ultimately think of Timothy Treadwell and his self-indulgence/stupidity, "Grizzly Man" is an awesome documentary about a man who died doing what he loved. There are some moments that feel incredibly phony, and these are the scenes where Herzog is actually present, but I just love the extraneous footage where Treadwell either goes berserk or interacts with the animals he's around.
It's amusing. Also, "Grizzly Man" is great because it's unbiased towards Treadwell and his hobby. Herzog chooses instead to study the curious character rather than express his own opinions about the subject, which is the trademark of a good documentary.
