Review of Gringo (2018) by John D — 10 Mar 2018
On one hand, I wonder how any movie studio would think this was an idea worth turning into a movie. on the other, I see the audience score at fifty percent and I really start to wonder how in the world we all became so stupid.
if ever you need visual proof of the fall of man, look at the positive reviews and score of this movie. if your reasoning for giving a movie a five star score is because it wasn't great and it wasn't bad, what's even the point of going to the cinema? why not sit at home and watch paint dry? it's just as entertaining and it costs you nothing.
firstly, I thought this was a comedy. no one in my theatre laughed. In fact, three couples walked out. I saw that once at a michael moore documentary but other than that i've never seen people flood out of the theatre.
I feel like they let an actual 12 year old make a film. he brought all his fancy friends so I guess it can't fail right? honestly how in the world did the director rope this cast to be a part of this sham? I can't believe I'm saying it, but I have actually lost respect for the cast in this film.
how could they have read this and thought wow yeah I can't wait to tank my career? Charlize....ughhh... my heart aches... this woman won an oscar.... two of the lines in the film are literally "yo quiero Taco Bell" and then Charlize makes fun/mimics a deaf girl? Maybe that's why she took this role, tone deaf! I wouldn't even see this film on streaming.
it needs to DISAPPEAR. if the director and writers and studio have any dignity, they'll devise a way to wipe this movie from the face of the earth. Please never let anyone who worked behind the scenes of this movie ever touch a movie set again.
The director makes this weird presumption here that american's are stupid and that they'll find this entertaining. wrong!
