The term Grindhouse actually comes from the old drive-in movie theatres during the 1960s and 1970s. It was well known for making films about sex and violence, but since they didn't have the ability to have any big name stares to appear in them, the sex and violence is what marketed them.

Two films would be shown, with trailers in between both films, while they would appear scratchy and also usually miss a few reels, which would probably be lost due to all the shipping that was done. Now Rodriguez and Tarantino bring their own version which is absolutely true to the old fasion: two feature length films as a double feature, with fake trailers in between the films.

Rodriguez's film (Planet Terror) is an action packed film that takes a new twist on the zombie genre, while also having a woman with a machinegun leg. Tarantino's film (Death Proof), featuring Kurt Russell as a crazed killer who kills women with a car, is more laid back and a little slow, though that final car chase sequence is breathtaking.

Well made and very funny, Rodriguez and Tarantino prove why they are great filmmakers who also understand the filmmaking business to its fullest.
