Review of Grindhouse (2007) by Analisa H — 26 Sep 2012
I don't think I'll ever understand how everyone is so hard on Death Proof. Sure, Planet Terror was closer to what was advertised...an uber-gory grindhouse-style flick. Still, a lot of people seem to refuse to appreciate Death Proof because it wasn't quite the bloodbath that Planet Terror was. Personally, I liked Death Proof better, but that may be because I was coming down with strep throat when I saw the films and was weak due to the fever, and therefore had a hard time looking at the screen for most of Planet Terror in case I puked. Death Proof was fun because of Tarantino's gift with dialogue and the sheer goofiness of it all. That, and Kurt Russell was pure genius. Personally, while I liked Planet Terror, I felt like the gore was a little TOO over the top, and that a lot of people rave about it because they feel like they're supposed to or something. Then again, I guess it had to be over the top to remain faithful to the style.
Either way, these films were awesome, and the little trailers were hilarious, despite being ridiculously cringe-worthy, especially Thanksgiving.
