Review of Grindhouse (2007) by Alex D — 15 Apr 2012
Well, first off I have to write 2 different reviews. first is planet terror. this movie was excellent! it may be the most perfect tribute to cheesy 70's movies I have ever seen. tongue in cheek dialouge, cliche story, mind boggling violence........what else is there to ask for? not only is it cool, I was laughing my ass off throughout almost the entire thing, it's just that rediculous! not to mention this may be the most violent and gory movie I have ever seen! gore apleanty and some really sick and twisted shit!!! but the movie never takes itself too seriousley, for which I am thankful.
Moving on to "deathproof", the tarintino picture. i'm not sure if he got the memo, because I didn't get the same cheesy vibe I got from rodriguez's film. this one is essentially a movie that could have easially released on it's own and nobody would even guess that this was supposed to be a tribute to the old drive in days. references to pulp fiction are everywhere and the dialogue, albeit clever, fails to capture the mood of planet terror. the 2 strongest points of this one are all the scenes with kurt russel and what may be the coolest car chase since "duel".
And I feel obligated to say that the previews between each movie are hilarious, they alone warrant a watch.
Planet terror: 4/12.
Death proof: 3/12.
