Review of Grindhouse (2007) by Angela C — 02 Jul 2012
What the!?!? Can you actually call grindhouse a movie?.. it is definitely an experience...an experience that has to be watched in the theatre. I was fortunate enough to watch "grindhouse" in an arthouse cinema in paddington, sydney.
..the Chauvel... and the cinema was perfect for it... and old town hall converted into a theatre... it had that 70's feel about it so when I started to see the scratches on the film and the missing reels .
.. I did turn around and look at the projectionist... yeah I know, I know its suppose to be like that but thats how this "experience" had me... it was something that the audience took part in and their reactions definitely made the movie.
The laughs, the disgusted moans and of course the comments. I love this "experience" for all that it is, a tribute to the movies of old, the slight of hand as you watch all too familiar genres take unexpected turns, or even the characters that you think the movie is about suddenly .
...die. What the?!?. . The two movies complimented each other so well I cant imagine watching these movies seperately and without the trailers. This "experience" breathed new life into the cinema for me and made me think twice about waiting for movies to come out on dvd.
