Review of Grindhouse (2007) by Kelsey L — 29 Dec 2012
"Grindhouse" is a great experiment from Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez. It is two films and several trailers edited together as a double feature evening at a Grind-house theater, much like Tarantino and Rodriguez would frequent in their young days.
The films are fun exploitation films, that are all about style over substance and top notch action and horror. Both films are quite good. Often "Planet Terror" is given higher acclaim as it is a tad more over the top.
..but Tarantino's "Death Proof" is actually incredible...it perfectly emulates old movies, has that Tarantino feel, looks beautiful, and has a great twist. It may lack the over the top nature of "Planet Terror", but I'm glad Tarantino did something different.
Many of the fake trailers are great as well. Terrific entertainment.
