Review of Grimsby (2016) by Foxgrove — 11 Mar 2016
Short, taut and gross out funny. This is the best sustained comedy since last year’s ‘Trainwreck’. Definitely not a must see for the easily offended or for those who like their comedy sophisticated, but for everyone else Sacha Baron Cohen’s latest envelope pushing exercise in bad taste is a lot better than its marketing would suggest.
A few of the actors (notably McShane and Cruz) are underused and the child hood flashbacks add little, but otherwise this audacious conceit will put a smile on your face unless, maybe, you live in Grimsby! The re-titling for the U S market is redundantly misleading.
