Review of Grimsby (2016) by Barry D — 13 Mar 2016
If you know going in that you are going to Sacha Baron Cohen flick then you know that you'll be seeing plenty of gross-out humor, lame and silly jokes, and material that would offend plenty of people. If that hasn't already scared you away, then what you find within this film is actually an entertaining semi-serious spoof of the action movie genre.
Cohen is one half of a pair of brothers that were separated at an early age. He is also a soccer hooligan, father of too many kids, mate to Rebel Wilson, with a set of bad teeth. Meanwhile his brother, portrayed by Mark Strong, is a super agent, capable of taking out small armies just by himself, until one of his missions is compromised by his brother, leaving him framed for something he didn't do.
The rest of the movie tells us all whether or not the brothers can save themselves and/or each other while also possibly saving a good bit of the free world.
Oh, don't forget to throw in plenty of obscene R-rated materials along the way, including one scene that will be infamous, at least until the end of the film.
For me, this was something that would be in the 3.5 stars (out of 5) range. I can certainly see where most critics would pan it, and a lot of the potential paying audience would just skip it, but those that do watch it would likely wind up admitting later that it was entertaining.
