Review of Grey Gardens (2009) by Bill T — 05 Feb 2010
A fantastic documentary about Jackie Onassis' aunt and first cousin, a mother and daughter who are both named Edith Bouvier Beale, called Big and Little Edie. The two slightly more than average eccentric women, aged 79 and 56, live more in the past than in the present, in an incredibly filthy mansion in East Hampton, Long Island, and have very little contact with the outside world.
You feel sorry for them but can't help being fascinated either; they have such strong pesonalities, particularly "little" Edie. This documentary from 1975 has received cult status and it's easy to see why.
