Review of Grey Gardens (2009) by Paul P — 17 Dec 2011
You watch Little Edie and Big Edie with car crash fascination, you just can't turn away. By themselves they're fascinating enough but the two of them together are shocking to watch. They're so open with the cameras it feels uncomfortable to watch.
But the Maysles set up shooting times with the sisters, at one point Little Edie puts a sign on the door that says "bathtub" and they wait outside for her to come out and tell them its okay to film inside.
Not a whole bunch is revealed about either of there pasts, especially the events that got them into that dilapidated house. All your left with is how a mother and daughter are seemingly incapable of living without the other.
