Review of Grey Gardens (1976) by Sarah A — 22 Dec 2008
Fascinting documentary and cautionary tale of the lives of the two Bouvier Beale ladies, relatives of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis who ended up living in squalor in their now-dilapidated house in the Hamptons.
Although on one level it is like watching a train wreck, I found it a fascinating psychological portrait and character study. The ladies strike you as odd (especially Little Edie) and more than a little "mutual enablers", but happy with their lives and not the least bitter.
Worth watching just to observe Little Edie's "costume changes" and hear her unique voice.
