Review of Grey Gardens (1976) by Brook K — 12 Feb 2010
We're dealing with a couple of "staunch characters" in this well-known documentary of a Long Island upper crust family gone to seed. Edith and Edie Beales are truly one-of-a-kind personalities with a relationship shifting from vitriol and guilt trips to affectionate co-dependency.
One can't help but be drawn into their meandering stories, contradictions, songs, detritus and above all their self-confidence and self-delusions.
