Review of Greta (2019) by Lanyard980 — 09 Aug 2021
Payoff is the final half hour.
A peculiar atmosphere that is hard to describe is at work here. Some of it might be due to Huppert's presence, as though she's wandered into this movie from another world(or planet). But the director no doubt deserves credit for bringing a subtle strangeness to the look of the whole project. Aside from the gimmick of the purse that starts the action, the entire first half is an annoyingly familiar stalking story - so that the intensity of the exciting final twenty minutes is both welcome and frightening. The subway, street scenes and outdoors look like NYC, but perhaps the interiors were filmed on studio sets in Europe to accommodate Ms. Huppert and the director (Mr. Jordan) ? I'm guessing here, but it could explain the unusual feel of the production.
