Review of Gremlins 2: The New Batch (1990) by Jonathan A — 30 Dec 2008
The gremlins return after being accidentally spawned by Gizmo in a high-rise New York department store corporation-building where the protagonists from the last film now work. More of a straight-up spoof this time around, which is different, but the humor is not so bad.
Most of the time, however, it can get pretty ridiculous. I actually found myself waiting for some of the dark humor of the original which seemed to be eschewed for a more kid-friendly film (and this is PG-13??).
The special effects work is outstanding though, it's just a shame they couldn't pull together the script to make the tone less uneven, including the overdose of gremlin gags. Tony Randal is hilarious as the "Brain Gremlin.
