Review of Gremlins 2: The New Batch (1990) by Brendan O — 02 Aug 2009
It's anarchic, insane and did it without making you feel self-conscious about seeing it. Gremlins 2 is in the long line of sequels that get dump on time after time, despite being actually pretty good.
I personally prefer it over the first one; John Glover's larger-then-life performance and Rick Baker's job with Gizmo and the Gremlins were definitely the high points here. Yes, this movie's pretty much a running series of gags and lacks a proper story, but it's great satire and fairly easy to get in to.
Gremlins 2 was completely over-the-top and bizarre while maintaining appeal and charm, quite a rarity that most comedies don't offer.
