Review of Gremlins 2: The New Batch (1990) by Rod E — 31 Dec 2012
Thanks to creative caricatures, an enhanced budget and a shrewd social commentary, Joe Dante's mischievous sequel is equally as much fun as its predecessor. The movie acts as both corporate satire and cartoonish creature feature, adopting a more mature, satirical tone than the first movie, yet pitching it alongside sight gags aimed at a younger audience.
The result is a picture that's comically appealing to viewers both young and old, laced with excessive parodies and amusing set pieces; most (but not all) of which feel pleasantly unfamiliar. Keep an eye out for Christopher Lee's cameo as a crazed scientist.
