Review of Gremlins 2: The New Batch (1990) by Mitchel S — 29 Jul 2010
There is perhaps no denying that the original Gremlins is far superior to the second. However, the sequel does raise the stakes in a lot of ways. You could probably file both films under separate categories on your DVD shelf, one under 80s horror and the other under comedy.
This was clearly a balls out spectacle that got rid of any of the forboding elements of the original, deciding to trade in on the comedy instead. At times the constant hyper activity works against it, but in reality, if you dont have love for the Gremlin franchise you probably don't have a heart.
I love it primarily for the fact it stars Phoebe Cates and has a brilliant, if too short, cameo from Hulk Hogan.
