Review of Gremlins (1984) by Peter P — 07 Jan 2011
When I was a kid I hated and loved this movie at the same time, cause it was pretty terrifying for a kid yet every kid I know also wanted a Mogwi. Thus is the paradox of Gremlins. Watching it now as an adult with young kids, I can't believe that this was pitched as a kids movie.
Sure, it is funny in parts, and Gizmo is adorable, but really, once the little green guys show up it becomes a full blow horror movie. Now, it is a pretty good movie, although watching now I can see a bunch of plot holes, such as.
... You can't get them wet, so do they not need water? They multiply if you get them wet, but they kept on spilling beer all over themselves, yet, they didn't multiply? And one of the other big problems, you can't feed them after midnight.
Well, is that eastern standard time, what if you change a timezone while they are eating? Couldn't they just keep some of their food if they really wanted to become gremlins? I could go on, but I know people are probably thinking that I am over thinking this already.
So, sure, it is a classic, but I just wish Spielberg had put a little more attention to detail in the plot and continuity, cause it helps picky people like me enjoy the film better.
