Review of Gremlins (1984) by Chris W — 21 May 2012
I didn't realize that Steven Spielberg did this movie. Now that I do, this must clearly b one of his worst. I was pleased however to see Phoebe Cates in this movie. I had a serious crush on her in "Fast Times at Ridgemont High.".
Frankly, almost 20 years later this'll or is almost a comedy in how over the top stupid it is....in fact some of the stuff that the Gremlins do made me howl. Take for instance when they jig the old lady's chair and send her fly clear out the window into a snow bank. Of course the antics in Patty's Tavern are great too!
All-in-all the only way that this movie was thought up was some childhood incident that Spielberg must have had when he wanted a pet and didn't get it cause to me he's clearly sending the message that pets are nothing but a pain in the ass, wreck stuff, always demand control and carry too much responsibility.
I can't believe that as a youngster I thought this was a good movie. Man is it bad!
3 stars for nostalgia and Phoebe Cates.
