Review of Greenberg (2010) by Andrew N — 29 Nov 2010
Ben Stiller plays Greenberg, a guy a little crazy, angry with the world and pretty much one of the most awkward people to be around. Heâ(TM)s house-sitting for his brother whoâ(TM)s on vacation in Vietnam, and somewhat falls for the help, Florence.
The movie opens and ends with Florence and I found her to be an interesting character. The actress seems very natural in the characterâ(TM)s shoes. I kinda wish the movie focused on her as sheâ(TM)s not such a chore to sit through.
Greenberg, on the other hand, is. Youâ(TM)ve got the movie pegged in minutes: Greenberg will go all crazy on people, have a few life-altering experiences and show some growth come the end of the movie.
The director, Noah, is good at taking these experiences and making them more real. Iâ(TM)d say my interest stops there, as he doesnâ(TM)t craft characters or situations that I really find myself being pulled toward .
. . and MY GOD does this movie feel a lot longer than it should!
