Review of Greenberg (2010) by Paul A — 23 Aug 2011
I wanted to like this, but it just wasn't happening. I couldn't tell what the problem was, Stiller, his character, or the plot. Greta Gerwig was fantastic. But Stiller seemed like he got the short stick.
I've seen movies where the protagonist is an antihero or just an asshole, but this just didn't have any of the charm or elicit any empathy that those characters normally do. The only thing that saves this film is Gerwig's honest and grounded performance.
I would really like to be able to recommend this, but I just can't. Maybe if you're bored and it's on, give it a go, but don't go out of your way for this one.
