Review of Greenberg (2010) by Mark J — 28 Aug 2012
Greenberg is the story of an utterly charmless man. It's slightly painful to watch, but a completely authentic piece of film-making. It will appeal to those who love small, character driven films with a hint of 'deep' comedy.
Greenberg is not a character many will warm to. To be fair, he has his vulnerabilities (Greenberg's just out of hospital after having a breakdown), but he's such a self-centered ass it's virtually impossible to sympathize with him, though this gives the film its edge.
There's no journey & no redemption. It's an intriguing watch, but a lukewarm experience. You'll probably wonder what on earth the house-keeper sees in him, I certainly did.
