Review of Green Street Hooligans (2005) by Matthew M — 07 Jun 2011
Green Street is quite absurd. It promotes violence as a hobby, and it has no shame in glorifying beating the living daylights out of somebody. And when the appalling actor Charlie Hunnam eventually bites the dust, you feel no sympathy, no sorrow, no anything.
All I thought was, "well, he had that coming", because, simply put, everybody in this film is fundmentally unlikeable. Elijah Wood is unconvincing as "tough guy" material, and, as many people have already stated, the violence is often more interesting than what has caused it.
Yes, this is a bit of a mess, and it's moral compass is all at sea.
