Review of Green Street Hooligans (2005) by Susie B — 07 Nov 2011
An interesting well acted drama that is superbly directed by Lexi Alexander, it concerns a American high-achieving Harvard student named Matt Buckner, played by Elijah Wood in a solid turn which is truly one of his finest performances who is expelled from his college because of a drug scandal causes by his coke-head roommate who hid his cocaine in Matt's belongings, which sets him up for the fall when their dorm room is searched and the coke is found, Matt decides to fly to the United Kingdom to be visit his older sister Shannon and her British husband Steve, wonderfully played by Claire Forlani & Marc Warren, he meets Steve's younger brother Pete, played brilliantly by the handsome Charile Hunnan the breakout star of the mega-hit television series "Sons of Anarchy," who so charismatic and compelling that he steals every scene that he is in, Pete is the leader of the G.
S.E., the "Green Street Elite," a group of obsessive violent fans of the West Ham football club, what we call "soccer" here in America. Pete befriends Matt and they become close friends, as Matt is introduced to Pete's violent world of football fandom, where rival groups of hooligans get into fierce all-out bloody brawls, Matt who is an inexperience fighter get into his first brawl and gives a good account of himself, soon he becomes completely absorbed in hooliganism and loving the extreme brutal violence, all of which will come to a climatic tragic finale battle between the G.
S.E. and a murderous rival group, in a suspenseful excellently choreographed fight to the finish. An intense and absolutely riveting motion picture. Highly Recommended.
