Review of Green Street Hooligans (2005) by Paul A — 12 Jun 2012
Stand your ground and fight!
A hard-edged tale about British "football" hooligans. Don't you dare call it soccer. When a straight-laced yank recently expelled from Harvard travels across the pond to stay with his sister, he encounters a world he never knew existed. Welcome to the backstreets of England, where football firms fight for the pride of their home cities.
From his time with the GSE, Elijah Wood's character becomes tough as nails and learns to stand up for himself. I couldn't help but yelling GO FRODO GO! during some of the fight scenes. While not oscar-caliber, it's an entertaining film about standing with your mates, knowing when to fight, and knowing when to walk away. There's even a few (albeit very thin) lessons to be learned.
Just good, clean fun.
