Review of Green Room (2016) by Brian N — 06 Jul 2016
It's interesting how my two favorite movies of 2016 so far are both about people stuck in rooms. I wrote about 10 Cloverfield Lane previously, but I also recently saw Jeremy Saulnier's Green Room and was absolutely riveted.
Without spoiling anything, I will say that it's about a young punk rock band that gets into trouble with some very scary people. Although similar to 10CL with some of its themes (ordinary people rising up to extraordinary circumstances), it isn't slick or elegant in its presentation.
Instead it's grungy, and unwashed, and absolutely mercilessly in its storytelling. It stars Patrick Stewart and the late Anton Yelchin, and is an absolutely breathtaking film.
