Review of Green Lantern: First Flight (2009) by Eric G — 27 Aug 2009
I'm a huge comic book geek (I collect over 40 different titles a month), and Green Lantern is probably my favorite book and character. The book has gone through a real renaissance the last couple years, since they brought Hal Jordan (the best Green Lantern) back to life.
The book is so epic, violent, and even gory (there was a monster in a recent issue that ate babies). Plus it has the best artwork out of any book I collect. So naturally I was very excited to see the new animated movie.
But of course, being animated, it is more like the Disney version of the Green Lantern tale. It still has a little violence, and is a little serious, but definitely not to my standards. The story follows how Hal Jordan acquires the Green Lantern ring, his training by Sinistro, and how Sinistro becomes an evil Yellow Lantern.
It would have been a very interesting movie if they had done it right. The animation isn't even that great (it was animated by Americans). It would have been way more killer if it was like the comic book, but I have high hopes for the live action movie, coming out in December of 2011.
Just hope Ryan Reynolds doesn't fuck it all up.
