Review of Green Lantern: First Flight (2009) by Justin K — 01 Jan 2010
Just watched Green Lantern: First Flight. Watchable, but... meh. The whole yellow and green elements thing (crystals?) throws away the whole emotional spectrum thing; which is one of the best things written for GL in recent times; Sinestro should be Abin Sur's best friend and not an accomplice in his murder; and there's gigantic plot holes like Sinestro leaving Kanjar Ro's energy rod behind or the rings not recording stuff that happens around them; allowing Hal Jordan to be framed for not one ,but two murders in a row. Why do they talk about the yellow vulnerability, if the rings are shown to affect yellow stuff? Utter crap.
Why is Sinestro wearing the Sinestro Corps uniform and emblem, but his ring and central battery have GL symbols? That's sloppy. Saying that the GL rings are innefectual against yellow; but showing how the central battery is built out of green and yellow materials?!? The central yellow battery flying around like a mini Death Star blasting stuff? What? The guardians surrendering to Sinestro? It's fun to watch, but a disappointment for GL fans. The final scene where they all say the oath is cool, though, and watching GL batttles is fun.
