Review of Green Lantern (2011) by Billy S — 14 Apr 2013
Although I dabbled a bit in the Green Lantern comics when I was a teen, I hadn't read any in a long time... that and the fact that GL received a panning by critics put be off going to see this when it was released, however curiosity got the better of me, and I was fortunate enough to get a copy on bluray for Christmas.
I have to say it was a lot better than I expected. The acting is pretty good, with Reynolds, Sarsgaard, Lively and Strong all turning in strong performances. The effects are really cool...especially the stuff created by the lanterns' rings. There is a lot of back story about the GL corp and the guardians crammed in, which for some might detract from the main story, but I thought was done well. There were also some nice teasers for possible sequels too (which I won't mention).
Overall an enjoyable superhero movie... better than some of the Avengers individual movies (Iron Man 2; Cap Am etc.) but of course it's no Dark Knight Rises!
