Review of Green Lantern (2011) by Jim A — 05 Nov 2013
I went into this expecting absolutely nothing... but I'm surprised how much I enjoyed it.
Yes, Ryan Reynolds has expired as a comic book character, but he played Hal Jordan well. Peter Sarsgaard as Hector Hammond is the crown jewel of the cast, however, sympathizing with the audience perhaps even more than the hero. Temeuera Morrison Mark Strong, Geoffrey Rush, and Tim Robbins do their usual excellent work, and he rest of the cast are forgettable while Reynolds pilots his newly discovered superpowers from one end of the galaxy to the other in an attempt to prove that humans are a worthy race.
The fights scenes are colorful, and the chemistry between Reynolds and Sarsgaard is painfully entertaining. There's a lot to swallow in the story, but it could potentially fall into place with a DC cinematic universe... if WB ever manages to pull off such a feat.
A bad movie that is enjoyable depending on the right mood, and some performances that I think are worth a second look, Green Lantern isn't quite the nightmare that it has been made out to be.
