Review of Great World of Sound (2007) by Mario H — 20 Jun 2009
A clever (and depressing) movie about two guys who get sucked into a con. The director did an amazing thing (a con of his own) to get musicians to perform for the movie. He ran an ad in local papers inviting musicians to come to an audition for a production company. What they didn't know was they were being filmed for the movie. The director and his production people do reveal what they are doing to these people, some of which were very good musicians.
What made this story depressing is nothing is offered to our main characters as a way of making amends, turning it around. They are left to walk in the wreckage they brought on themselves and others. There is no redemption; just nightmare.
Many good themes are covered; honesty, trying to improve your life, racism and racial tension, friendship, deception.
