Review of Great Expectations (1998) by Spencer L — 04 Feb 2009
A modern day Charles Dickens adaptation, this film is a very underrated drama from 1998.Both Ethan Hawke and Robert Deniro have wonderful performances, but the best performance goes out to Anne Bancroft who simply steals every scene.
Gwyneth Paltrow was simply a bad choice for the leading character in my opinion, she simply wasn't very convincing. And by the way, I must also say that Chris Cooper was phenomenal.. what an actor .
The Cinematography was also outstanding and my hat's off for whoever the artist was for Ethan Hawke's character drawings..Very cool stuff. Recommended.
