Review of Great Directors (2009) by Harry E — 24 Jul 2010
It must have been a great opportunity to get to talk at length to these ten filmmakers. As a film this is nothing remarkable - in fact, it's rather frustrating because it tries to confine the interviews with the directors into some arbitrary structure (sections on politics and Hollywood, for example).
I would have liked to just see the filmmakers share their views, their words not manipulated by the demands of Ismailos's structure. Cavani and Sayles, and Breillat as well, deserved more screen time than they were given.
