Review of Gravity (2013) by Kyle C — 26 Jul 2015
The Good, The Bad, and The WTF. The Good (actually the Great) Sandra Bullock, of course, she carries (literally) this entire movie and even though you can't really see her under all that space gear for the majority, she is giving a very good, and very difficult performance because this could not have been an easy movie to film for anyone, it takes a really gifted actors to pull this off and she is very gifted so there you have it.
Also, the cinematography, I give huge props to the camera guy because this is beautifully shot with great visuals from Earth from miles above it's core. The Bad, well, the fact of knowing what's going to happen (Clooney's character and mission control mention it) and then having to wait for it to happen, only to be over in seconds is kind of a huge let down.
There is real terror from Bullcok's character but it is so drawn out where you just sit there and think any minute now, but you say that for many, many minutes, and the story is somewhat thin, but then again, how much of a story can there actually be, it's about people trapped in space, the end.
WTF is the end, now I know it's supposed to be all realistic and dramatic and thrilling (which parts of it are) but as Bullock is deciding on whether or not she should try to survive or give up and die peacefully, it would have actually been more effective of an ending to go the opposite route that they did, but for a movie with a total of 3 cast members, there isn't much to complain about, it wasn't horrible, it wasn't great, it was just kind of, um, off in space, Wow, that was great.
MILD RECOMMENDATION for Sandra Bullock and the camera work.
