Review of Gravity (2013) by Tom M — 18 Nov 2014
Gravity has its moments of visually stunning and improbable space walking that left this viewer left wanting more. The concepts are intriguing and appealing to the sense of awe of being in space guiding a billion dollar space stations around the earth.
I especially liked the back and forth sparring and respect that the two main actors had. Dr. Ryan Stone played by the always fun Sandra Bullock and Astronaut Matt Kowalsky spot on by George Clooney. What is left to the imagination is two people trying to survive a shower of debris caused by other satellites colliding sending their worlds into instant survival mode.
I was hoping for more closure at the end of the story so maybe there is a realization of the growth of Ryan character through this ordeal.. Dr. Stone becomes quite the innovator as she hops from space station to space station guessing what buttons to push to get her to one that does have the capability for re entry.
It's all Hollywood but Sandra Bullock takes the character further to read manuals, think outside of her safe world and reveal the shattered past that drives her to discover who she is and where her boundless ingenuity will take her.
Good fun for space enthusiasts and action movies. Go see it. Even if it's out of this world.
