Review of Gravity (2013) by Ronald W — 11 Mar 2015
I will be honest, I didn't enjoy it that much first time around. I mean it was still good but was a little too linear for my interest, with so much happening all at once. However, I felt compelled to watch it a second time, which adds credibility to it for sticking with me. And after a second viewing, I thought it was a masterpiece! True the plot is still linear, but to reduce it's score for that reason, I find, ungreatful. For it's not trying to make a story that intrigues you as much it tries to sympathise and relate with you in the struggles that we face as human beings, and how we must learn to adapt to our own circumstances. It's credit is due because I felt truly involved with this movie and the characters struggle, so much is happening at once that at times you feel like she should just give in. But that would bypass the point of this movie, that we are conditioned to survive and move on.
Credit is also due for the visuals, as it's quite surprising how realistic this movie looks using today's CGI. This only adds to the film, and the experience. This movie is not just a thematic movie, but also a visual masterpiece.
