Review of Grave Encounters (2011) by Shayne J — 27 Oct 2012
The movie begins with a spot on parody of Ghost Hunter shows, and is totally believable to be a real ghost hunter show. You get attatched to the characters and get the feeling that they do NOT believe in these spirits.
But things start to ramp up really quickly when they spend the night and crazy things begin to happen. But the more stuff happens, the more the movie goes downhill... The scares weren't as scary as I had hoped, and were usually either subtle little movements or full on jump scares.
The atmosphere also wasn't as creepy as I had hoped because the whole "abandoned asylum" thing was already done in Session 9, which is a far better film. The special effects for the faces were AWFUL.
They looked like those demon face morph effects you can easily do on iPod apps. Thank god they only did that about 2 times. It did have it's creepy moments, and did keep me interested until the end, but if it had gone on any longer.
.. I would've given this movie 1 star lower than my current score. It's one of the better recent found footage films in the found footage craze going on currently.
